INTRODUCTION

When troubleshooting video output issues with your Roland switcher, it's helpful to first check that HDCP is turned off in the System menu.

On most models, you can find this on the first page of the System menu: Menu > System > HDCP > Off

When HDCP is turned on, the following is disabled:

• HDMI output to recording devices
• HDMI output to streaming devices
• USB Streaming output
• SDI output
• Analog Video output

 

WHAT IS HDCP

HDCP is a form of copyright protection that is required to be added to some HDMI video signals.

There are some situations where you need to turn on the HDCP setting on your Roland switcher, but it will impact your video outputs.

DVD, players, Blu-Ray players, and streaming media players require HDCP to be turned on in the Roland switcher's system settings or the input video signal will be blocked.

 

HOW TO USE IT

When you turn HDCP on, if the Roland switcher's HDMI output is connected in any way to a recording or streaming device, or to a converter that outputs SDI or Analog video, that connected device will block the HDCP copy-protected video signal passing through the switcher.

So long as the only output destination devices are displays (TV, monitor) or projectors, then you should not have any issues with enabling HDCP.

For Roland switcher models that have SDI, Analog, and USB Streaming outputs, turning on HDCP will also disable them.

 

HDMI CAT EXTENDERS

HDMI CAT Extenders are a pair of devices that convert HDMI to a CAT network cable and back to HDMI again. These extenders typically add HDCP to the signal, even if the input source is a camera.

Please check with the extender's manufacturer regarding compatibility. SDI converters or HDBaseT extenders are a recommended alternative as they do not add or require HDCP.
