BRIDGE CAST X: How to Set Up Audio and Video
This guide walks you through basic audio and video setup for BRIDGE CAST X. For more detailed setup information, including Dual PC setups, please reference the related guides available in the knowledgebase.
IMPORTANT NOTE
If you previously installed the control app for the original BRIDGE CAST (version 2.00 or earlier), use this guide to update it to version 3.00 or later before connecting BRIDGE CAST X to that computer.
The original BRIDGE CAST will continue to work with that computer, they both use the same control app. And you don’t need to uninstall anything to add BRIDGE CAST X to that computer.
Step 1
Go to the BRIDGE CAST X downloads page:
https://www.roland.com/global/products/bridge_cast_x/downloads/
- Download the “BRIDGE CAST App” for your OS.
- Download the “BRIDGE CAST X USB Driver” for your OS.

Step 4
To set up a microphone, connect it to the XLR MIC input. If the microphone needs phantom power, change the switch from OFF to 48 V.
To set up a headset with an attached microphone, connect it to PHONES/HEADSET.
Step 5
To set up video capture, connect an HDMI source to IN 1.
Connect HDMI THRU to your monitor.
On the top panel, check that VIDEO 1 is lit white.
If instead VIDEO 2 is lit, press the HDMI IN button once.
Press the USB OUT button once, so that it’s lit blue.
If you disconnect your source or it is not compatible, the USB OUT button will turn off after a few seconds.
Step 6
There are 2 USB cables in the box. Set aside the one labeled “Power” and use the other one.
Check that the switch above USB II on the back of BRIDGE CAST X is set to PC.
Connect the USB cable between USB II VIDEO/AUDIO and your computer.
Step 7
Open the BRIDGE CAST App. It should look like this:

You may receive a pop-up asking you to update. Click UPDATE, followed by OK:

The update should take 1-2 minutes and it may stay on 99% for some time.
When it reaches 100%, unplug the USB cable, wait 3 seconds, and plug it back in:
You should see “BRIDGE CAST X” in the top left corner of the control app. That means it is connected. If not, close the app and open it again.

Step 8
You may have noticed that we call BRIDGE CAST X a "dual bus mixer". This means separate audio mixes for your and your stream audience.
For example, when I play an FPS, I want only my audience to hear music
- When the Stream/Personal Mix button is unlit, each knob controls my personal mix levels
- When the Stream/Personal Mix button is lit blue, each knob controls my stream's mix levels
- When Mix Link is lit white, each knob controls both mixes at the same time
- On headphones, you will hear the currently selected mix
- You can also adjust these settings in the app using the sliders and check audio levels for each mix
Step 9
You can add BRIDGECAST X as an audio and video source in any streaming or recording software. For this example, we’ll use OBS Studio.
In OBS, create a “Video Capture Device” source and select “BRIDGE CAST X” (may instead say “USB VIDEO DEVICE”) from the Device drop-down menu:
If you don’t see it on the list, check that the USB OUT button is lit blue. If not, go back to Step 5 in this guide.
For an “Audio Input Capture” source, select “STREAM (BRIDGE CAST X-II)” from the Device drop-down menu:
Step 9
Go back to the BRIDGE CAST app and click on MIC SETUP. If you connected a headset, change the MIC TYPE setting to HEADSET.
If your XLR mic needs phantom power, check that the 48V icon is blue. If not, go back to step 4.
Adjust the GAIN slider while speaking into the microphone. Increase the gain until your levels are mostly in the blue range.
Finally, click on SYSTEM. In the right column, note that HDCP is OFF. Do not turn it on, it will disable USB video output.
If you plan to use the USB video output with software like Zoom or Teams, change USB VIDEO FORMAT to YUY2 only.

Below are some topics covering more advanced setups to help you get the most out of your BRIDGE CAST X.
Audio Routing
BRIDGE CAST X has multiple physical and virtual audio inputs and outputs. The USB connections are bi-directional, so the majority of routing setup is determining which outputs go to which inputs.
A physical input is straightforward, these are the various XLR and 1/8" connectors on the back of the BRIDGE CAST X. A virtual input is what your games and apps use to output audio to BRIDGE CAST X.
The patchable virtual inputs on BRIDGE CAST X are:
- GAME
- CHAT
- MUSIC
- SYSTEM
You can select these in any game, chat app, or music player with assignable audio output:
A physical output is the headphone and line out connectors on the back of the BRIDGE CAST X. A virtual output is what BRIDGE CAST X uses to send your stream mix to OBS, for example.
The patchable virtual outputs are:
- MIC - Just the microphone signal*
- STREAM - Your stream mix
- PERSONAL - Your personal mix
You can select these in OBS as an Audio Input Capture Source:
*The MIC virtual output does not have level control, only mute.
- If you adjust the level knob for the MIC channel on your Stream and Personal mixes, the MIC virtual output is unaffected.
- But if the MIC channel's mute button is assigned to the default "Mute All", muting the MIC channel will mute the MIC virtual output in addition to the Stream and Personal mixes.
Both USB I and USB II have these inputs and outputs. They are labeled on your computer for easy reference.
- When connected to USB I, they will say (BRIDGE CAST X-I)
- When connected to USB II, they will say (BRIDGE CAST X-II)
In the BRIDGE CAST app, you can route the following inputs to any of the four mixer knobs:
- MIC - The XLR input
- AUX - The 1/8" input
- CHAT - Virtual input
- GAME - Virtual Input
- MUSIC - Virtual Input
- SYSTEM - Virtual Input
- SFX - For imported sound effects
- HDMI - The HDMI input
Dual PC Setups
BRIDGE CAST X has a 2nd USB port for dual PC Setups:
- Connect the Gaming PC to USB I (Audio) or an HDMI input
- Connect the Streaming PC to USB II (Video/Audio)
You can output the Gaming PC's audio to either the USB I audio port or HDMI input.
With the original BRIDGE CAST, you have 1 USB audio port, so you would instead use the AUX in:
- Gaming PC audio out to BRIDGE CAST AUX in
- BRIDGE CAST USB out to Streaming PC
- Run voice chat app on the streaming PC
