V-1200HD: How to Update the System Program Firmware
Items Needed:
- V-1200HD Processor Hardware
- HDMI Monitor
- Windows or Mac Computer
- USB Flash Drive
Caution:
- Never apply this update data to any product other than the V-1200HD. This update data may destroy the data or system program of other products.
- Never power-off your V-1200HD while the update is in progress! If a power failure or similar accident occurs during the update process, the V-1200HD won’t be able to start up in normal operating mode. This will require servicing, so you will need to contact Roland service center near you if this occurs.
Procedure:
NOTE: The V-1200HD Processor and V-1200HDR Controller each have their own separate update files, procedures, and update guides. This guide is for the V-1200HD Processor only.
NOTE: If your V-1200HD processor version is earlier than 1.10, first update to version 1.10 before updating to the latest version.
Before you begin, connect the USB Flash Drive to the V-1200HD's USB MEMORY port, and format it in the menu, which appears on Multi-View Output 2:
MENU > FORMAT > YES
- A 16 GB or smaller USB Flash Drive is recommended
- Larger drives may not finish formatting or start the update
- The V-1200HD will format the USB Flash Drive as "FAT32"
- You can also format it using your computer, but using the V-1200HD is recommended
Once finished, you will later connect it to your computer to transfer the update files.
NOTE: When turning off the power to the V-1200HD, first remove the USB flash drive from the USB port before you turn off the power. If the power is turned off while a flash drive remains connected to the V-1200HD, the V-1200HD might fail to start correctly at the next powerup.
Step 1
Download the System Program Firmware update file from the V-1200HD Downloads Page.
Scroll to the bottom of the page, click the checkbox, and click on the orange button to download.
The update files will be contained in the downloaded .ZIP archive file.
Note: The latest download is "v1200hd_sys143.zip", this image is for reference
It will appear in your downloads folder as v1200hd_sys143.zip.
Extract the files from the .ZIP file, and leave the window open, you will copy the below file to the flash drive in the next step:
Note: The latest download is "v1200hd_sys_v143.zip", this image is for reference
Do not open the .PRG file, it's not a program that runs on your computer, and do not rename it. You will later copy it to the V-1200HD in the following steps.
Step 2
Copy the update file V-1200HD.PRG to the root directory of a USB flash drive.
Do not copy the v1200hd_sys_v143 folder to the USB flash drive, only the .PRG file inside that sub-folder.
Note: The root directory is the top level or main folder you see when you connect a USB flash drive and click to open it.
Step 3
Power off the V-1200HD.
Press and Hold Down [ENTER] + [INC] buttons and turn on the power.
Wait until "Press ENTER to Execute" is displayed to release the buttons.
Note: It takes about one minute for the unit to go into Update Mode.
Step 4
Connect your USB flash drive to the V-1200HD's front USB MEMORY port.
Wait about 30 seconds for the USB flash memory to be securely recognized.
Press [ENTER] button to start the update process.
* The update process takes 30 minutes to finish.
* The indication shown on the display might stay unchanged for a long interval, but the update remains in progress.
* If the message "ERROR_END" appears on the display, do the following:
- Detach the USB flash memory.
- Carry out the update again from "Step 3."
Step 5
When the message "Complete" is displayed, the operation has finished.
Remove the USB flash memory.
Turn off the V-1200HD.
Step 6
Press and Hold Down [ENTER] + [INC] buttons and turn on the power.
Wait for the message "Connect USB memory and press ENTER to execute." to appear on the monitor (time required: approx. 1 minute).
* Do NOT connect the USB Flash Drive, and do NOT press the [ ENTER ] button.
Without pressing anything else, turn off the power to the V-1200HD.
You will need to update your V-1200HDR controller as well, that has a separate file download and procedure:
If you had any settings issues prior to the update, consider running a FACTORY RESET from the the System menu. This will reset all your settings to their defaults.
