Roland Switchers: What is the Tally Connector For?
Tally is a simple system that allows on-air talent to address the live camera during a multi-camera broadcast or recording
Lights are placed above each camera in the shoot. The lights are then connected to a tally light manager box, then plugged into your video switcher. The light of the camera that is live is lit up.
When a video engineer switches from one camera to another, the tally light changes to the corresponding camera. Now, instead of addressing a camera that is not live, on-air talent can receive a visual cue to address the correct camera.
Having a tally light lit up on their camera also prompts camera operators to hold their shot until the director takes another camera live.
