Use this guide to stream to any platform that supports RTMP using Roland AV mixers with Direct Streaming output, which is not the same as USB Streaming output. You can send your stream information using a web browser with the Roland Web App.

If using Facebook, YouTube, or Twitch, those services support logging in directly and have separate guides, but you can still manually stream to those platforms by using this guide.

The following models have Direct Streaming:

• SR-20HD
• VR-6HD
• VR-120HD

AeroCaster has direct streaming, but does not use the web app.

 

What is RTMP?

Ever notice how a website link sometimes starts with the letters HTTP? RTMP is like the streaming version of that. Many platforms use this to receive the stream, convert it, and send it out to your audience.

Videoconferencing software like Zoom and Teams are not the same thing, they are designed for real-time communication and require computer software. Instead, use any Roland video product with a USB streaming output. There is a list at the top of this guide.

Roland Hardware Setup

Connect your Roland AV mixer with a network cable to a Wi-Fi router with internet. Most routers will automatically assign an IP address using DHCP, so it's recommended to keep the default setting:

• SR-20HD: Menu > Network > LAN Setup > Configure > Using DHCP
• VR-6HD: Menu > Network > Configure > Using DHCP
• VR-120HD: Menu > Network > LAN Setup > Configure > Using DHCP

In the Stream menu, set one of the services to Twitch and you will see a setting called Use Web App or Use Web Application.

• SR-20HD: Menu > Stream > Service 1/2 > Custom - Use Web App
• VR-120HD: Menu > Stream/Record > Service 1/2 Setup > Custom
  • Go back one page and select Use Web Application

You will get a short URL and QR code. Use either to access the Roland Web App page.

You can use a computer or mobile device to set up the stream.

When you first open the Web App, you will see this screen.

 

Go to your streaming platform's website, log in to your account, and look for the following:

• RTMP URL (aka Stream URL)
• Stream Key

Copy and paste each of those in the text boxes in the Roland Web App.

If you only stream to one platform, or to a multi-streaming service like Restream.io, the RTMP URL does not change.

The stream key is like a password to your stream, it will change every time you stream. Some platforms may also call it a stream ID, or similar. Do not share it, as it can be used by others.

Platforms like Wowza also have an option to turn off authentication, which is necessary because the Web App does not include a separate user name or password in the RTMP information.

Most platforms allow you to set up a persistent stream key, making it the same every time.

Sync the Hardware

Once you are ready, click the Submit button at the bottom of the Web App page.

 

Click OK to close the window. From there, simply start your stream on the Roland AV Mixer.
