Roland Switchers: How to Stream to YouTube with the "Use Web App" Setting
Use this guide to stream to YouTube Live using Roland AV mixers with Direct Streaming output, which is not the same as USB Streaming output. You can link your account using a web browser with the Roland Web App.
The following models have Direct Streaming:
- SR-20HD
- VR-6HD
- VR-120HD
AeroCaster has direct streaming, but does not use the web app.
Account Requirements
Before you can stream to YouTube Live directly via login, you have to verify your channel using a mobile phone number and wait up to 24 hours, using this link: youtube.com/verify
These are the other account requirements, please click here for more information. Note that these are YouTube's requirements and are subject to change at any time:
- Restricted Streaming: Requires 50 followers, no account restrictions in the last 90 days, a verified channel (requires a mobile phone number), and up to a 24 hour waiting period for mobile streaming. There is a limit on viewers (number of followers +25) and archived streams default to private.
- Unrestricted Streaming: In addition to the above requirements it requires 1000 followers and the waiting period may be longer than 24 hours for mobile streaming without restrictions.
-
If you do not meet these requirements: You can connect by setting up Custom RTMP in the menu.
- Log into your YouTube account in a web browser, enter YouTube Studio, and look for the RTMP URL and Stream Key.
Roland Hardware Setup
Connect your Roland AV mixer with a network cable to a Wi-Fi router with internet. Most routers will automatically assign an IP address using DHCP, so it's recommended to keep the default setting:
- SR-20HD: Menu > Network > LAN Setup > Configure > Using DHCP
- VR-6HD: Menu > Network > Configure > Using DHCP
- VR-120HD: Menu > Network > LAN Setup > Configure > Using DHCP
In the Stream menu, set one of the services to YouTube Live and you will see a setting called Use Web App or Use Web Application.
- SR-20HD: Menu > Stream > Service 1/2 > YouTube Live - Use Web App
- VR-120HD: Menu > Stream/Record > Service 1/2 Setup > YouTube Live
- Go back one page and select Use Web Application
You will get a short URL and QR code. Use either to access the Roland Web App page.

Roland Web App Setup
Use a computer for the initial setup. After that, you can easily use a mobile device to set up the stream.
When you first open the Web App, you will see this message.
If you are already logged into the YouTube site with the web browser you are using, it will skip this screen.
If this is your first time using the Roland Web App with YouTube, you need to click Continue to grant permission to connect your account.
Stream Settings
Once that is complete, click on Sign in with YouTube again, and then you should see this screen.
- Create Broadcast - Creates a new stream without having to use the YouTube website.
- Select Your Broadcasts - Selects a stream you already set up on the YouTube website.
Create Broadcast Settings
- Title and Description: This information is displayed on YouTube to help people find your stream.
- Select Privacy Scope: This sets your stream as public, unlisted, or private.

If you plan to use the same Title and Description every time, leave it on "Create Broadcast", and you can re-use the stream key it gives you without opening the Web App.
If you reset your Stream Key on YouTube Studio page, you will need to run this Web App process again to send the new stream key to the Roland AV Mixer.
