HOW TO KNOW THE VERSION
Before you start, check the system program version of your V-8HD.
  1. Press [ MENU ] to invoke the MENU screen.
  2. Turn the [VALUE] knob to select SYSTEM, then press the [VALUE] knob.
  3. Turn the [VALUE] knob to select VERSION.
    The version information is displayed.
* If this shows the latest version, there's no need to update your V-8HD.

[ Additional Function ]
  • Key compositing using the Fill+Key signal from the Windows-only program Graphics Presenter is now supported.
  • Functionality has been added that enables the Windows-only program Graphics Presenter to be operated using the USER buttons and footswitches connected to the CTL/EXP jacks.
    Connecting the V-8HD via a USB cable to a computer running Graphics Presenter lets you control Graphics Presenter from the V-8HD.
  • A function has been added that lets you operate the V-8HD using a numeric keyboard connected via USB.
    Using the [MENU] button > 19: NUMERIC KEYPAD, you can assign actions to the keys.
  • A function has been added to record panel operations and generate a macro.
    When MODE is set to "MACRO", pressing and holding the MACRO button for the macro number you want to record to lets you record panel operations to a macro.
  • A DISSOLVE mode has been added to PANEL OPERATION.
    This is a mode for assigning video to A/PGM [1] through [8] buttons and switching the video instantly by pressing the respective A/PGM button.
    Behavior when the video is switched can be selected using the [CUT] button or the [AUTO] button.
  • Functionality has been added that allows fine adjustment of color for WIPE BORDER, PinP BORDER, PinP FILL, PinP EDGE, DSK FILL, DSK EDGE, and SPLIT BORDER.
    Setting the color to "CUSTOM" lets you adjust the respective RGB values to any number from "0" to "255".
  • A function has been added that enables use of a test pattern instead of video as video input via the HDMI IN 7-8 connectors.
[ Functionality Improvements ]
  • The internal processing for PinP&KEY and DSK chroma key compositing has been improved, and background color can now be passed more accurately.
    "VALUE FINE" and "VALUE WIDTH" parameters have been added, enabling fine adjustment of the amount of extraction.
  • A function "DESPILL" has been added to remove background color near the border in PinP&KEY and DSK chroma key compositing.
    Setting DESPILL to "ON" enables you to remove bleeding background color near the border with the transparent portion.
  • A feature has been added to the audio follow function for linking the audio to the ON/OFF status of the PinP&KEY or DSK.
    From the [MENU] button > 10: AUDIO FOLLOW, set PinP&KEY 1 FOLLOW through PinP&KEY 2 FOLLOW or DSK FOLLOW to "ON" to link the ON/OFF state of each effect with the audio output.
  • The value "PST" to which the preview output video at the current point in time can be switched has been added to the "PGM TAKE" value of the macro function's FUNCTION parameter.
  • MEMORY FADE TIME to control the fade time for preset memories and "MEMORY FADE ON/OFF" to toggle fade on or off for each individual effect have been added to the macro function's FUNCTION parameter.
  • With the LOAD PARAMETER item for PRESET MEMORY, AUX can now be set on or off irrespective of the on/off status of VIDEO CROSSPOINT.
  • The default value for Auto Off has been changed to 20 minutes.
    * For information on the Auto Off function, please refer to the [OWNER'S MANUALS].
  • Some menu indications were changed.
  • Menu design and layout have been adjusted.
  • The default values of some parameters have been modified.

The following bugs were fixed.
  • In chroma key compositing, the leftmost column of the screen sometimes fails to be correctly transparent.
  • In PinP and DSK, some colors are transparent even when KEY LEVEL is set to "0".

  • Version 1.0.0 of the V-8HD RCS dedicated remote control software for Windows / Mac is now supported.
  • A function has been added that enables MULTI-VIEW labels to be displayed regardless of whether the menu screen is displayed or hidden.
    Selecting the [MENU] button → "SYSTEM" → "MULTI-VIEW LABEL" and setting " -AUTO HIDE" to OFF causes MULTI-VIEW labels to be displayed even when the menu screen is displayed.
[ Functionality Improvements ]
  • Operation has been changed so that when AUX LINKED PGM is enabled, the audio from PHONES OUT follows the status of AUX LINK.
  • Operation has been changed so that when STILL IMAGE OUTPUT is enabled, a notification screen is now displayed while the menu is closed.
    STILL OUTPUT can be disabled by pressing the [EXIT] button at the notification screen.

  • A function has been added that enables audio input to be made monaural.
    "L ONLY," "R ONLY," and "LR MIX" can be selected as the method of conversion to monaural sound.
  • FUNCTION "PinP VIEW" and "PinP CROPPING" parameters have been added to the MACRO function.
    For PinP, the position and size of the picture in the window and the aspect ratio of the window can now be controlled from the MACRO function.

  • Support for version 2.0.0 of the V-8HD Remote dedicated control app for the iPad was added.
    (Version 2.00 of the V-8HD system program does not operate correctly in combination with versions of V-8HD Remote earlier than 2.0.0. Use after first updating to the latest version from the App Store.)
  • A macro function and a sequencer function have been added.
  • Importing PNG images containing transparency information (alpha) and DSK compositing using transparency information are now supported.
  • DSK compositing by external keying using multiple video inputs is now supported.
  • The values of 23.98 Hz, 24 Hz, 25 Hz, 29.97 Hz, and 30 Hz have been added to the system frame rates.
    (These are selectable only when the system format is 1080p.)
  • Functions for saving only PRESET MEMORY content to a USB flash drive and recalling only PRESET MEMORY content from a USB flash drive have been added.

  • Functionality has been changed so that the audio of respective HDMI inputs can be separately output to the audio output AUX buses.
  • Functionality has been changed so that the settings for applying effects to audio sent to audio output AUX buses can be made with greater granularity.
    This is selectable from DRY, PRE FADER, and POST FADER.
  • A setting has been added for not recalling the AUX channel selection when recalling settings from a preset memory.
  • An option has been added for not saving to internal memory when importing or capturing a still image.
    Changing the setting for saving to internal memory to OFF eliminates sound drop-out during saving and enables still images to be imported or captured in shorter times.
  • A function for batch deletion of still images has been added.
    All still images can be deleted by choosing the "ALL" selection for DELETE STILL IMAGE on the STILL IMAGE menu.
  • Functionality has been changed so that images having the ".jpeg" file extension can be imported.

  • The problem was corrected in which setting PANEL LOCK for CUT SW also set PANEL LOCK for AUTO SW.
  • When a memory is loaded while in the PGM/PST mode, VFX is sometimes activated for both A and B.
  • When BPM TAP has been assigned to a USER button (USER SW), the LED indication and the timing with which the screen is switched using BPM SYNC sometimes fail to match.
  • Remote control via USB MIDI.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO UPDATE
  • V-8HD
  • USB flash drive
    *When using a USB flash drive for the first time, you must format it using the V-8HD.

CAUTION WHEN PERFORMING THE UPDATE
  • Never apply this update data to any product other than the V-8HD. This update data may destroy the data or system program of other products.
  • Never power-off your V-8HD while the update is in progress!
    If a power failure or similar accident occurs during the update process, the V-8HD won't be able to start up in normal operating mode.
    This will require servicing, so you will need to contact Roland service center near you if this occurs.
  • We regret that we are unable to answer questions regarding the update procedure using this system program.

DOWNLOADING AND UNARCHIVING THE COMPRESSED FILE
  1. Read the software license agreement at the bottom of the screen and select the "I agree" check box.
  2. Click the "Download" button to download the system program (v8hd_sys_v300.zip).
  3. Unarchive the downloaded file.
    • Windows :Right-click the file and select "Extract All", then click "Extract".
    • Mac: Double-click the file to unzip it.
      -The "v8hd_sys_v300" folder appears.
  4. Connect the USB flash drive formatted with V-8HD to your computer.
  5. Open the "v8hd_sys_v300" folder, then copy "V-8HD.PRG" to the level displayed immediately upon accessing the USB flash drive (the USB flash drive's root directory).
    *DO NOT rename the file (V-8HD.PRG) in the folder.

PROCEDURE FOR THE UPDATE
Caution
  • You must not rename the extracted files.
  • Never turn off the V-8HD's power while the update is in progress.
Update Procedure
  1. Connect the USB flash drive to the USB MEMORY port.
  2. Hold down the [ PinP 2 ON ] button, the [ DSK ON ] button, and the [ CAPTURE IMAGE ] button and turn on the power.
    -Keep pressing and holding the three buttons until their LEDs light up.
  3. When the display shows "SYSTEM UPDATE PRESS [ENTER]", press the [ VALUE ] knob.
    -The update starts.
    *The update takes about 3 minutes.
    *Never power-off your V-8HD while the update is in progress.
  4. When the display shows "UPDATE COMPLETED. PLEASE RESTART", turn off the power.
  5. Disconnect the USB flash drive from the USB MEMORY port.
  6. Turn on the power, and verify that the V-8HD updated to the latest version.
    *While the first startup follows an update, update processing for the display executes.
    This process might make the brightness dark, but it is not a malfunction.
    Wait about 20 seconds until the unit starts up.
