Bankstown Sports Club is one of Australia’s largest and best known clubs with more than 65,000 members. The club’s facilities include 8 restaurants, 7 bars and 13 event spaces. The club recently installed a Roland XS-84H A/V Matrix Switcher in their main theatre space which hosts an incredible variety of performances including cabaret, rock, school events, comedy shows and children’s entertainment.

At the front of this theatre there are three main screens which are required to display content from a variety of sources including Blu-ray and other media players, Mac and PC computers, portable tablets and cameras. The XS-84H can take signals from any of these and route them to the three main screens because it accepts composite, RGB, VGA and HDMI sources with a wide range of resolutions right up to 1080P. The XS-84H’s in-built Scalers on both its inputs and outputs makes it even easier to quickly manage this diverse range of hardware the theatre is expected to deal with.

The club’s A/V Team Leader Jason Klippel commented that a major attraction to the unit was that he was able to handle a multitude of applications including matrix switching, scaling and mixing with just a single piece of equipment. As for the unit’s remote access capabilities Jason said “The iPad App works perfectly*. This has enabled us to use the device remotely from any location in the room, which gives us greater flexibility”.

The theatre is currently running version 3.0 of the XS-84H’s firmware which has added some significant features in response to our customer’s feedback about the unit. The new features include a comprehensive Remote Access Software Application that allows you to edit the unit’s parameters from a Mac or Windows computer via a LAN connection and some creative video mixing features including the much asked for cross dissolving between channels.

There are 2, 3 and 4 output models in the XS range. They all have 8 inputs and identical processing power so you can choose a model that fits your requirement and budget. In addition to the free iPad app and Windows/Mac control software, the XS Series are fully controllable over RS-232 and LAN via popular protocols including Crestron, Extron and AMX.
